Trademark Renewal Procedures

The protection period of the registered trademark is 10 years from the date of application. This period can be renewed unlimitedly in ten-year periods.

The trademark, whose protection period has expired, is renewed upon the request of the owner or a representative authorized by him/her. The request for renewal is made within six months before the last day of the month in which the protection period expires. If this period is missed, the renewal request can also be made within a period of six months from the last day of the month in which the protection period expires, provided that an additional fee is paid.

The renewal period starts on the day the current registration expires. The renewal is recorded in the registry and published. Trademarks that are not renewed within an additional six months from the end of the protection period are deemed invalid.

Renewal process in treademarks is essential for the continuation of treademarks. If the areas of activity of the trademark used have expanded, the renewal process should be done again, but new applications should be made for the expanded the areas of activity. It is not a recommended way to wait for the previous trademark to be renewed but to expire and to apply again, including the previous activities.
